Key Skills & Attributes:
- Facilitate and drive automating repetitive manual processes to improve the overalls engineering teams efficiency. This would include CI and CD deployment processes.
- Have a track record of building high quality software products.
- A strong engineer with a significant amount of development experience. Whilst this role does not require coding you will be expected to know what good code looks like and hold others to account.
- Have a can-do attitude and are thrive in busy, demanding environments.
- 5+ years of total engineering experience with a deep experience of building engaging web app solutions.
- Have experience managing small teams of engineers

mkodo has a broad and exciting technical stack. Our App’s are built on a strong “re-use” model and we are planning significant technical migrations through 2022/23 to further enforce this strategy. This is an exciting time to join mkodo, as we develop beyond front-end only solutions and become part of the technology stack of major lotteries, along with the complementary solutions from our other PBL business units.
About the Role
About the role:
- As the Head of Engineering - Web, you will be part of our Engineering team, and responsible for the delivery of these products, maintenance of their current state and defining their target state with stakeholder.
- You will be responsible in leading the Web Development engineers, and their contribution to the overall revenue.
- You will create suitable business cases for development of new products, in collaboration with stakeholders and be responsible in delivery these into the business.
- Reporting into the Director of Technology and Engineering, who you will collaborate closely with, helping to define, the overall strategy of technology and technology governance within mkodo driving initiatives that improve our services and engineering practices.
- You will shape what engineering excellence looks like, driving initiatives that improve our award-winning apps and engineering practices.
- The Web “Pillar” is a pivotal within mkodo and to that end you will collaborate closely with the other Heads of Engineering to ensure that the app products are providing the services and features that the other teams need.
Main Responsibilities
Main responsibilities are:
- Line Management of Web engineering team, setting objectives and direction and succession opportunities.
- Mentor and support team members
- Hiring and appropriately resourcing the Web Pillar, in conjunction with the HR and recruitment teams
- Work closely with the accounts and business analysis teams to support our mobile Web solutions.
- Inspire engineers by providing new ideas and concepts.
- Leading the definition and ongoing progression and training of engineers.
- Help ensure that our solutions are scalable, sustainable, and technical debt is both incurred consciously and repaid in a reasonable amount of time.
- Ensure all services adhere to modern secure coding standards
- Support the timely delivery of technical solutions.
- Develop a strong culture of Build, Run, Own ensuring the team collectively own codebases and understand choices.
